Chinese Dictionary

Learning another language is not easy in general but some people think that learning Chinese in particular, is really quite hard to do. Learning Chinese is not easy for Westerners and the Chinese dictionary, though very helpful is not enough to learn the language quickly and efficiently. Aside from the use of Chinese characters, Chinese words also belong to two classified Chinese dialects - Mandarin and Cantonese. Learning one of these dialects is hard enough so it is always recommended that a student sticks to either of the two.

The Dynamics of the Chinese Language

When you go through your Chinese dictionary, you will find that the language varies further in dialect. The variation depends on the location of the native Chinese speakers and even between generations. There is generally a gap in the Chinese vocabulary between grandparents and grandchildren. This gap is not even considered a small discrepancy since some of these words cannot be found in any Chinese-English dictionary or even in a pure Chinese dictionary. These are words that are commonly known only among the locals.

Aside from the dialects, there are also a lot of other issues which makes using a Chinese dictionary and learning the language very complex. First is the alphabet of the Chinese language. If you take a look at your Chinese dictionary, you will find that you will have to perfect the patterns and styles of the Chinese characters. You don't get a simple A-Z alphabet that closely resembles that of the English, you will have to learn a variety of characters that become more complex as your level of learning increases.

Difficulty of Learning Chinese

It is no secret that learning Chinese really is difficult. The Chinese people are quite particular regarding the composition of their approximately 3000 characters. That may seem a lot and it is, but you do not have to worry since you will not be using all 3000 characters all at once anyway. Chinese children have been taught over the years about the important of these characters and how to write them precisely the way they should be written. This is the custom of the country and if in case you are feeling intimidated from learning the language, just remember that if little Chinese children can do it, then why can't you?

The Chinese language is very fascinating and learning it is rewarding. Just be armed with patience and dedication and you will soon master the language slowly but surely.
